About Us
Greentree Stables was started by L. Dennis Ginn in 1975 as a place to house his APHA stallion
Silky McTavish. Dennis purchased Silky from business partner Lester Tatum of Brenham in 1971 and campaigned him with trainer Shorty Russell of Brownwood. Silky won Reserve National Champion at Halter and National Champion at Western Pleasure in 1972 and National Champion at
Halter, Western Pleasure and Cutting in 1973. Silky was the only paint horse to accomplish a National Championship in a halter, performance and cattle event all in the same National show and remained that way for some time. Silky had his ROM in Halter, Western Pleasure, Reining, and Cutting. Dennis and his wife Weida along with their two sons Dennis and John started raising and showing paints from their 101 acre ranch in Brenham. Silky sired many offspring who went on to excel in many different disciplines. Dennis was a committeeman on the Paint Horse Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years. He was an active member in the Gulf Coast Paint Horse Club as well as the Central Texas Paint Horse Club and the Louisiana Paint Horse Club. He owned and operated Greentree Sales Company Inc. from his offices in Houston, selling recreational real estate throughout Texas and Mississippi. L. Dennis Ginn passed away on Friday, January 13th 1989 and is survived by his wife of 39 years, Weida, his son John C. Ginn of Sulphur Springs, TX and his son Wm. Dennis Ginn who now operates Greentree Stables of Brenham. Little Dennis (as he was called) and his wife Nancy, along with son Bill and his mother Weida, reside at Greentree Stables. They raise Arabian and Half Arabian Sport Horses. Nancy trains and shows them in Halter, English under saddle, Dressage, Trail, Endurance Racing, and Carriage driving (including Combined Driving Events and Arena Driving Trials). They are in the Wesley community just outside of Brenham on 70 rolling acres with miles of riding and driving trails as well as 2 dressage arenas and a covered round pen. Nancy is planning to teach beginning and more advanced riders in both english and western styles.
She trains horses from starting young horses to finishing more seasoned ones. The facilities are available for riding, driving and training by appointment. Feel free to give them a call to set something up.
